Menzies’ Finance transformation story: From legacy systems to leadership

About this webinar

Menzies Aviation, a global leader in aviation services operating across 350 airports in 65 countries with 65,000 employees, had outgrown its on-premise HFM environment. Slow consolidation speeds, out-of-hours metadata changes, Citrix access frustrations, and a system built for two very different businesses made change overdue. With IT pushing for cloud and Finance needing a platform that could scale with rapid acquisitions, OneStream became the clear choice after extensive customer reference calls confirmed it as the right move from HFM.

The implementation ran through most of 2022, bringing over 12 years of historical data and going live for November month end. Since then Menzies has added IFRS 16, a business integration, cash flow forecasting, weekly flash reporting, and is now eyeing transaction matching and Power BI connectivity. The finance function is faster, more intuitive, and genuinely future ready, with leadership trusting the numbers it produces and 200-plus global users who were excited about the change from day one.

Key takeaways

  1. Menzies could add airports and update metadata without taking the system down, a constraint that disappeared entirely with OneStream. For a business acquiring and integrating new locations frequently, that operational freedom is transformative.
  2. Consolidation speed, automated minority interest calculations, and flexible JV accounting replaced critical manual workarounds. For a complex multi-currency business, these were core requirements HFM could no longer deliver reliably.
  3. Twelve years of historical data in one place gives FP&A the analytical depth to support decisions across a long horizon. Having all trend data unified rather than fragmented across systems surfaces context that would otherwise require significant manual assembly.
  4. End user engagement across 200-plus global users in multiple time zones and languages was essential to go-live success. Every local Finance team had a named participant in UAT ensuring no surprises when the system went live.
  5. OneStream has expanded beyond core Finance into cash flow forecasting, flash reporting, HR KPIs, and safety metrics. The system's ability to hold non-financial alongside financial data makes it a genuine management information platform.
