Developer innovations - Innovation spotlight series

Welcome everybody and thank you for joining us. I'm Zach McEwen, Cedar Senior Product Expert here at OneStream. I'm joined by our Executive Vice President of Product and Engineering, Jeremy Gutman. Whether you attended Splash Orlando and want a deeper look into innovations announced at the technical keynote or you couldn't make it and want to catch up with what was unveiled, we're excited to have you here.

Our traditional disclaimer today, we'll be discussing products currently under development and as such, all products, features, and timings are all subject to change. And with that, we'll jump into our program today.

Now, before we get started, I'll borrow a line from Jeremy when he opened up the live technical keynote at Splash. If terms like data architecture, development tools, integration, APIs, and platform engineering make you uncomfortable, you may be in the wrong session because today's discussion is designed for builders. It's really for developers and implementers, architects, administrators, and IT teams responsible for extending, integrating, and scaling the OneStream platform.

Across every organization's expectations placed on technical teams continue to grow. Businesses want new applications delivered faster. They want more data integrations across more and more systems. They want AI-enabled experiences. They want modern user interfaces. And of course, they want all this without sacrificing governance, security, ability, or trust. That's exactly what the innovations unveiled at Splash Orlando Matter. This year's technical keynote wasn't about introducing individual features.

It was about showing how being the platform foundation to help organizations build faster, scale smarter, and prepare for the AI era. Come on.

Over the next 30 minutes, we'll revisit major innovations announced during the keynote. From next generation finance engine, our plug-and-play architecture powered by Genesis, to developer studio, connection center, and foundational capabilities that support innovation in finance. We'll explore how these innovations really work together to provide a trusted foundation for your data, governance, connectivity, developer tools, and financial intelligence required to scale AI responsibly.

Think of this session as understanding the platform architecture that powers the AI era, while the AI innovation session focuses more on the agents' experiences and use cases built on top of that foundation.

Jeremy, one of the biggest challenges organizations face today is managing data across increasingly fragmented technology landscape. Knowing that the data is central to AI, why was Connection Center such an important investment for OneStream, and what problems are we solving for customers?

Zach, it's a great question. Data is central to AI. It's central to all of your finance workflows. It all starts with data. It's not surprising that building an effective way that we can help finance engage all of their source systems and make that data what we call functionally fit for finance was so central to our thought and to our approach.

Take that data, how do we make it functionally fit? How do we add financial intelligence to it and deliver it into the finance workflows? So this is why Connection Center is so important. This is what Connection Center focus on or focuses on. So it all starts first with, you know, unsurprisingly, connections. So you have to be able to connect to source systems. And our Connection Center comes with connectors to some of the most common business systems out there, like SAP, ECC, S or HANA, and many other systems.

So connecting to source systems is one need. Another is business intelligence tools. Lots of companies are using different business intelligence tools as part of a broader data and analytics strategy. And we want to ease the friction of how OneStream can work with those systems. So Connection Center also includes connectors to tools like Power BI and Tableau.

And we think about one other kind of key trend happening across the data enterprise and the data, the data market is cloud data warehouses. They're becoming increasingly more prolific and central to a lot of enterprises strategies. And so we have connectors to cloud data warehouses like Snowflake. And so this is how we look at leveraging your existing enterprise investment so we can streamline the access to the data.

Now, once you have it, you need to be able to use it across the platform. And that's another key area of Connection Center is the ability to define those connections once and reuse them across every solution that you have.

And then obviously you've got that data, you're reusing it in your various workflows. Now you want to be able to financialize it. And so these are the three areas, connect, reuse and enrich that Connection Center tackles. And we're really excited about where we are right now with our connectors to various systems. You're going to see a lot more investment as we continue to extend and push this forward. So again, delivering that data that you need into your finance workflows.

So one thing that stands out about the Connection Center is that it really helps organizations bring more data into the platform. But as data volumes continue to grow, connectivity is only part of the equation. You also need architectural capability of handling scale. So talk to us a little bit about the next evolution in the platform.

Sure, it's a great question, right? Getting the data is a key piece, but now you have to be able to work with it. And as you said, data volumes are continuing to increase. And so we've been on a journey to evolve the whole platform to take into account and solve for these types of needs. And we call this journey our next generation journey. It's a multi-year journey as we kind of look at the platform as a whole. And we're looking at, of course, data, as we've said, but we're also looking at other aspects.

And specifically, one key area are our models and how you model and build within OneStream. Now, why? Well, our customers want to leverage our capabilities for more and more. They're using it in financial planning, financial close. But as we move into other operational spaces, we see new use cases happening and we see a demand for new features and functionality so that our customers can address this. And so if you want to kind of understand how this lays out, we should look at it on a timeline basis and see kind of a broader context of what's happening.

Right now, there's always been a push in evolving our platform. And we've been investing since kind of day one back in 2012 when we first released the platform. Now, we saw increasing demands from customers. And if you look at the timeline you see in 2018, we had a significant response to some of those needs where we doubled the capacity of what our models can do.

But we knew we needed to do more. And so it was looking at this timeline that you see, we started thinking about how do we deliver on this idea of a next-gen journey and how we put it into action. So that's really what happened in 2023. And that's really the background and the context of why the next-gen journey was so important. And so it's at the start here in 2023 of this investment. And we continue since then to expand and grow strategically in a number of different areas.

So I say that because next-gen isn't covering just one aspect. It's covering a range of topics. As we said, model size is important. Data is important.

But we knew we needed to continue to engineer the platform to new heights. That's what next-gen is about. And that is specifically what we've done. And that's why I'm really excited to talk to you about Vertex. Vertex is our next-generation engine currently in private preview.

What it does is next-gen enables and powers the ability to build models that are now 10 times larger than before. 10 times larger means really expanding how we think about the scope of the engine. And so when we think about that, we're adding new features and capabilities that are required for those use cases I mentioned operationally. So these are things like data granularity. How do we move from an engine that can support monthly data to daily or even more frequent?

Additionally, how do we provide more precision of your data, your data accuracy? We know in some cases you need nine decimal places of precision. But in other cases, you might need other needs or kind of other precision. We give you the ability to configure it. And that puts you in the control of having the flexibility and the driver of how your model is going to operate.

Next is a key area of attributes. Now, attributes are central to business logic in our space. And we need to be able to ensure that attributes are served and surfaced as a first-class citizen in the engine. And that's exactly what we've done with attributes. That's going to unlock a lot of power in a lot of different use cases.

And then finally, the other key area to hit on is sparsity. Sparsity is a key element of any OLAP system. And that's why when we thought about Vertex and revisiting this engine, we designed for sparsity from the very start.

So how did we do that? How did we accomplish this and build these capabilities? Well, we really rethought the entire stack. We reexamined the business needs and then the corresponding computer science challenge. So when you say you're going to rethink the stack, you know, how can I explain that more kind of tangibly? Well, we look at all of the foundational elements that are required in a modern system, storage, memory and compute.

And you can't solve one of these. You have to tackle all three because they work together. And that's what we did. And it's this foundation that's really the key. It's this foundation that unlocks these new opportunities, these new operational use cases. And that's what's so exciting. Right now we can partner with you, our customers, our partners to tackle these use cases that you've candidly been asking for for quite a bit. And we've wanted to tackle them. Now, I mentioned Vertex is in private preview. It'll run through 2026 and we're excited to move it forward next year in 2027.

We'll be running early access programs with our customers and our partners. Really exciting to see how that's going to go. And all of the great use cases and opportunities it's going to unlock. Zach, it's a really exciting time to think about building with this capability on one stream.

Definitely is. Definitely is. Vertex represents a significant investment in the foundation of the platform. So once you establish that stronger foundation, the next challenge really becomes helping customers realize the value from it faster. How does plug and play architecture powered by Genesis help simplify that experience?

It's a great question. So our plug and play architecture is really what pulls all the pieces together by addressing one of the key areas, visualizations in building user experiences.

Genesis makes building beautiful and engaging user experiences both fast and easy. Now, what does that mean? Well, let's say you're not a graphic designer or a user experience expert.

That's fine. Genesis is designed to look amazing with all the built-in capabilities to understand color palettes and certain configurations and enforces uniformity to ensure that as you're building screens, one looks similar to the next. So it's a common look and feel. All of that is baked directly into Genesis. So further, Genesis makes it even easier to build iteratively because let's face it, when we're tackling a problem, we don't want to build the entire user experience, build out everything and then get feedback.

We want to design and build iteratively, get feedback from our end users, and then configure it continues to refine.

And with the latest release, we're simplifying the ability to do just that and to configure those processes very, very simply and without friction.

And so it does that by delivering business-ready content in the form of what we call blocks. And these blocks are elements that you can click and configure. You don't need development. You don't need any coding. Now, at the same time, the OneStream platform is known for its flexibility, enabling you to build however you'd like and customize where you need.

And Genesis maintains that flexibility. So you can customize it and change it as you need. So really, when you think about Genesis, it's designed for our end users, our power users, our implementers, and our developers. Now, I can tell you a lot more about it. But what I think is the most compelling is why don't we take a look and just see how Genesis has evolved over the past year.

With Genesis, a year ago, we started with the CubeView, the backbone of the OneStream experience. Then something clicked. The parameters just worked.

Then we looked at analytics. A waterfall chart. Built in seconds. People noticed. But speed was just the beginning.

Layouts, advanced dashboards, toolbars, reusable components. Not just parts, but complete experiences. Then something unexpected happened. We went from views, to layouts, to entire models. Dynamic. In memory. Built in minutes. Across planning. Close. Operations. Analytics. Administration. More content. So we're doubling down on making it even easier. AI assisted selection. AI assisted configuration. AI assisted navigation. Because structure matters. The frame tells the story. This is Genesis. This is OneStream. OneStream.

So, Jeremy, one of the themes that we've heard throughout today's discussion is speed. Connection Center helps organizations connect data faster. Vertex helps them scale faster. Genesis helps them deliver solutions faster. But the innovation doesn't start at the user experience. It starts with the builders. How did the focus on speed and reducing friction shape the vision of the developer studio?

It's a great question. You know, why is speed so important and how do we get here? Well, you just heard a little bit about it in the video. You know, we started rapidly iterating Genesis. We started getting feedback from users. And the feedback was great. And what did they want? They wanted more content. Like these blocks are easy to configure and set up. We want more of them. So we tried to go faster. And it became clear.

We can and are continuing to develop more and more. But we needed to provide our developers the ability to do more. We needed to provide them the ability to drive to be the drivers in the seat of their development.

And we needed to do that, not just at scale, but it needed to be done simply. Right. It needed to be able to meet that persona, that developer, where they work and how they work.

Right. And one key trend that's been going on really kind of taking shape in a much more material way in 25, and we see it carrying forward in 26, is not only just with the tools, but being able to leverage the AI tools and the agentic development tools that are now becoming so prominent and so important, both for us within OneStream as well as our partners. And that's what we wanted to tap into. Right. We wanted to bring to the OneStream platform and its capabilities to build closer to that and those tools and to those agentic development tools.

And so that's what is so exciting about the release of the OneStream developer studio, because it does that. Right. It meets the developer where they are.

The OneStream developer studio is a simple add in that works with all of the latest tools, tools like Cloud Code and Cursor and VS Code and many, many others. Right. You can use the OneStream developer studio with now what we say, the IDE of your choice. You can bring that IDE and we will provide with the developer studio the rich experience of the OneStream platform in that development tool. So these are things like IntelliSense, native ability to push and pull code from the OneStream infrastructure as you're developing.

We will package that code up and deliver it and then surface it within OneStream. That's what the OneStream developer studio does. It brings all of those capabilities together.

Further, because you're using your own IDE and your own tools, you can also have your own branching strategy, your own development flows, Git flow or whatever the flow is that you choose. Right. All backed by OneStream. What does that mean? It means authentication, authorization, governance, kind of all the aspects you have. The aspects you've come to rely on for your financial workflows. We're extending and making it available to the developers.

And so that's what's really exciting and what the significant unlock is with the OneStream developer studio.

Very exciting. Very exciting. So what's interesting about everything we discussed so far, these innovations don't exist in isolation. The Connection Center helps unify data. Vertex helps the foundation scale. Genesys simplifies the delivery of solutions. Developer Studio modernizes how builders create on the platform. So how do these innovations work together to extend agentic development and drive more flexibility?

Well, agentic development is the key there. Right. And we've talked about bringing your own tools, your own AI tools. But we want to take it further. Right. We want you to be able to leverage more of your own capabilities you have today. And one of the keys is unlocking not just the tools, but the languages. And so as we look forward into the back half of 26 and into 27, what is the future of developing solutions on OneStream look like? Well, it looks like leveraging other languages like React and Angular.

It means it looks like bringing your own open source packages. Right. That have new components that might not be available in our dashboarding framework. Right. It means bringing all of your skills and all of your capabilities and using it with developer studio to build modern, amazing, beautiful experiences right on top of the OneStream platform. What we see this opening up and unlocking is is really limitless. We talk about finance without limits. This is development on the OneStream platform without limits.

It's a really exciting shift and it's a really exciting change that we first unveiled at Splash. And the community is going to see more and more of this as we move through 2026.

Well, you just keep building and building. So, you know, one of the things that we look at all the innovations that we talked about are announced at Splash. What what should customers, partners and developers be most excited about over the next 12 months or so?

It's a great question. And we we actually started to hit it on kind of the prior slide where we were just talking about the future of applications. What what what is the most exciting, I think, for me and what I think is the most exciting for the community is the convergence of all of these investments as they come together that we're making. Right. It's connection center. It's removing the friction to get at that data, as we talked about. It's new web apps, which I just mentioned using your own languages, your own tools. Right. Bringing your own modern language and libraries.

It's developer studio. It's being able to leverage all of those tools together in your own, you know, IDE so that you can build. And then it's Genesis. Genesis, which is wrapping and providing the authentication, the authorization, the governance, the navigation, all of those pieces. So you don't have to focus on that. Instead, you can focus on the fifth piece, which is building your models and leveraging the next generation engine like Vertex. As you see, leveraging all of these investments.

That's what's the most exciting for me. You know, as a builder myself, I look at these tools, I look at these investments and I can't wait to build myself.

So, Jeremy, we've got some some good questions. What are the minimum requirements for Genesis and developer studio?

Great question, Zach. We've added a lot of new features to enable Genesis and developer studio and those new capabilities are part of the platform 9.3. So customers want to be on 9.3 to get all the latest and greatest of what we've talked about today. Okay. I got another one. We already have integrations built today. Is Connection Center something we use for net new integrations or can it help simplify and govern what we've already built? Well,

you can certainly use Connection Center for net new integrations. Definitely a lot of capabilities and integrations can be done much more quickly, you know, with Connection Center.

If you're an existing customer, it's also worth taking a look at because really the maintenance, as you mentioned, the maintenance and just the overhead as you support and evolve your integrations are just much easier with Connection Center. So definitely something to take a look at. And then I think each customer can decide how to move forward. All right. Good to know. As an administrator, does Genesis help me spend less time maintaining applications and more time supporting the business?

Oh, certainly. You know, the speed at which you can both, you know, click, configure and deploy as well as continue to change and evolve. It's so much easier, so much faster. You're going to spend far less time in the past and you're going to spend your time on the value added activities, which is the insights, the reporting and really how you're going to drive your business forward. And not surprisingly, that's been our focus with Genesis.

Nice. So this is the last question. It's about developer studio. So does developer studio help reduce the learning curve for developers who are new to one stream?

Absolutely. It absolutely brings down the kind of curve there and makes it much more approachable. You know, how will one you're using all the tools that you already know your own ID, your own agentic development tools. As I talked about, as we go forward, you need to use your own languages, the languages that you're already proficient in. And you're going to leverage the libraries and the capabilities that you're already using in other areas. So all of that really reduces the curve and makes it much easier for people to get going.
