How Nutreco replaced an end-of-life HFM platform with a unified system across 33 countries
About this video
Nutreco, a global animal feed manufacturer producing 9 billion euros in annual sales across 33 countries, was running on an unsupported version of HFM that pushed Finance teams into error-prone Excel-based manual processes. Reporting limitations, compliance risks on text reporting, and excessive time spent crunching numbers left the business without the insights needed to steer operations effectively at global scale.
OneStream now supports consolidation, forecasting, ESG reporting, CapEx reporting, financial close, task management, and account reconciliations on one unified platform. CapEx reporting effort has been reduced by 50% to 75%, data quality is transparent and traceable, and Finance teams have reclaimed the time and confidence needed to focus on genuinely understanding how to steer the business. For Wilna Lindemann, OneStream has brought back the joy and passion of building EPM systems that produce great insights.

Key takeaways
- An unsupported HFM version pushed Nutreco's Finance teams into error-prone, high-risk Excel-based manual processes. Reporting limitations and compliance risks on text reporting made staying on the legacy platform unsustainable for a manufacturer operating across 33 countries.
- OneStream supports consolidation, forecasting, ESG reporting, CapEx reporting, close, and account reconciliations on one platform. Bringing that breadth of Finance functionality into a single shared data environment transformed what Nutreco's global Finance teams could accomplish together.
- CapEx reporting effort has been reduced by between 50% and 75% since implementing OneStream. That efficiency gain reflects the broader shift from manual number crunching to a platform where Finance teams spend time understanding results rather than assembling them.
- Data quality is now transparent and traceable, and people can trust the numbers they are working with. While trust in data is difficult to measure, Wilna Lindemann identifies it as one of the most significant and meaningful benefits Nutreco has gained from the platform.
- OneStream has brought back the joy and passion of building EPM systems that produce genuinely great insights. When Finance teams spend less time on manual processes and more time steering the business, the work becomes what it was always meant to be.

My name is Wilna Lindemann. I'm the manager of financial information systems at Nutreco. Nutreco is a manufacturer of animal feed products and we have manufacturing plants in 33 countries. We produce an annual sales value of around 9 billion euro per year and that is the equivalent of a little over 9 million metric tons of animal feed every year.
So before OneStream we were using HFM 11 .124 and that was running out of support. Our reporting processes could not be included in HFM which basically meant that we pushed our business teams into Excel-based manual processes with a lot of work, error prone and high risk of not having the right insights.
And in some areas like for instance on text we could not make any major changes and we were risking to become incompliant. So there was a lot of time lost and a lot of time spent on crunching numbers and that in itself leads to not having sufficient time to really understand how to steer our business.
The one phrase I would use to describe OneStream is great business value. So we're currently using consolidation, we're using forecasting, ESG reporting, we use it for CapEx reporting, we use it for financial close which includes for us task manager and accounts reconciliations.
We're also using some of the marketplace solutions like guided reporting and also our extensive text reporting solution. Having a platform where you can share processes and share data is not a dream but that you can actually get it done.
We also gained a lot in the sense of data quality where OneStream is allowing us to look at the data in a much more transparent way and allows us to see where there are data quality issues. We see an immediate reduction between 50% and 75% of the effort required to complete the CapEx reporting.
But if you talk about the areas of data quality that has a lot of benefits, people can trust the data, that's something that's not easy to measure but it's a big benefit to us as well. It has brought back the joy and passion that I have in building EPM systems that can actually produce great insights.
