How Valeo cut financial computation time from half a day to 10 minutes with OneStream

About this video

Valeo, a global automotive supplier listed on the French stock exchange, had outgrown SAP BPC as its consolidation and costing platform. Lacking the flexibility and speed a complex multi-layer organization requires, the legacy system made performing meaningful cost computations across corporate and business group layers increasingly difficult and time-consuming.

OneStream's costing solution addressed Valeo's tailor-made requirements while unifying controlling and consolidation on a single set of figures. Computation time dropped from half a day to 10 minutes, currency extraction from the consolidation system has been optimized, and Finance teams now focus on data quality rather than managing the manual processes and error-prone tasks that previously consumed their time.

Key takeaways

  1. SAP BPC lacked the flexibility and speed Valeo needed to perform cost computations across a complex multi-layer global organization. As requirements grew, the legacy platform increasingly became a constraint rather than an enabler for the Group's Finance and controlling teams.
  2. OneStream's costing solution addressed Valeo's tailor-made requirements within a unified Finance platform. The combination of purpose-built costing capability and platform flexibility gave Valeo what SAP BPC could not deliver for their specific organizational structure.
  3. Controlling and consolidation now run from the same unified set of figures for the first time. Having one consistent data foundation across both functions eliminates reconciliation between the two and gives Finance teams a single authoritative view of performance.
  4. Computation time dropped from half a day to 10 minutes, a transformational speed improvement for the Finance team. That gain frees Valeo's consolidation team to focus on understanding and validating results rather than waiting for the system to finish processing them.
  5. Currency extraction and other previously manual tasks have been significantly optimized within the consolidation process. Reducing the level of manual intervention has improved data quality, cut error rates, and allowed Finance teams to focus on higher-value analysis rather than routine corrections.

My name is Louis-Xévé Caron. I am a Group Consolidation Director at Valeo. The Group Valeo is dedicated to the automotive market and we are listed on the French Listed Stock Exchange. Like many global companies, the Group Valeo is organized over several layers.

We have a corporate, we have some what we call business groups. We used to use SAP PCM solution for our needs. Each start showing also a lack of flexibility. It was not fast enough. It became mandatory to set up a tool in order to be able to perform such a computation in a relevant way.

We went to OneStream based on the costing solutions that basically the platform is providing us. The tailor-made needs for us thanks to the costing solution that is part of OneStream. We are quite, let's say, unified from a finance and controlling standpoint.

We already have actual figures issued for controlling and for consolidation. Based on the same set of figures, we benefit from a very significant improvement in terms of speed. The computation of our figures used to take, let's say, half a day.

Now it's like that ten minutes. Speed is definitely something very significant. We extract the use of the French currency from the consolidation system. So we've been able to optimize a lot of tasks which basically help us to better focus on the quality of data and reduce the level of questions or mistakes.
