Splash Day 3: Finance as the Operating System

People learning at OneStream Splash.

Day 3 at Splash shifted the conversation from what Finance can do to how Finance leads. The focus: Finance‑Guided Operations, where trusted financial intelligence moves beyond reportingto actively guiding and shaping decisions across the business.

The day anchored on two tightly connected areas: Modern Financial Close and Finance‑Guided Operations, both essential to turning financial insight into operational action.

With OneStream, the financial close, consolidations, account reconciliations, journal entries, transaction matching and reporting all live on a single, unified platform, with a simplified, guided user experience designed to reduce friction and rework. The result is not just a faster close—it’s a continuously trusted system of record that feeds a system of decision. Modernizing the close transforms Record‑to‑Report from a reactive accounting exercise into a real‑time business capability When Finance trusts the numbers and closes faster, everything that comes next improves.

What was newly emphasized is how that foundation enables Finance‑Guided Operations.

That’s where Line‑Item Modeling becomes pivotal. It lets Finance and Operations plan at the detailed level where critical decisions actually happen, not at an aggregated level. Finance can now model how the business actually runs: at the detailed level of workforce, contracts, fixed‑term initiatives, and duration‑based scenarios. This gives Finance the ability to analyze and respond quickly to change where it happens, not after the fact.

Workforce planning stood out as a clear example. As the single largest cost line for most organizations, workforce decisions demand precision. OneStream Workforce Planning brings Finance, HR, and Operations together in a shared model, so teams can see the real financial and operational impact of headcount, compensation, benefits and labor changes in real time.  And the newly released, Workforce Planning Express provides organizations with an accelerated time to value, building on  pre‑configured models and best practices, helping teams deploy faster and realize value sooner.

Speed to value was a recurring thread throughout the day. The continued expansion of Express Solutions — including Financial Planning Express and Workforce Planning Express — is designed to remove the idea that CPM or EPM implementations must take years. These packaged offerings help organizations get up and running quickly, without sacrificing governance or flexibility.

Across sessions, one point came through clearly: Finance‑Guided Operations is not about replacing operational teams. It’s about equipping Finance to continuously connect financial plans with operational reality.

Day 3 showed what that looks like in practice: a modern financial close that creates confidence, planning models that reflect how the business actually works, and deployment paths that accelerate time to value.
