I have been in this industry for over 28 years, starting my career at IMRS, which became Hyperion. Over this time, I’ve experienced virtually every solution, approach and technology choice made in BPM/EPM/CPM (I’m sure I’m missing the various acronyms used over this time), from proprietary databases, SQL databases, the introduction of online analytical processing (OLAP) databases, and now columnar databases.
I’ve witnessed the evolving challenges finance teams face firsthand in accessing and analyzing diverse data sets—from transactional to operational and financial. It’s been a journey marked by constant adaptation and innovation, especially with how monumental OLAP was to our industry for consolidations, planning and flexible analysis for Finance and decision-makers across their organization.
That’s why I cannot emphasize enough how I believe our introduction of Dynamic Cubes here at our annual Splash conference is the next great transformative milestone since OLAP, to address the challenges of the modern CFO.
OneStream Dynamic Cubes represent more than just a technological advancement; it embodies a paradigm shift in how finance professionals integrate and harness data, empowering Finance to bring together any internal or external data. Without loading data, the solution dynamically makes it look and feel like a cube alongside financially intelligent hierarchies – all in a uniquely unified analytic model. Consumed directly within all existing OneStream visualizations, analytics, workflows and reports. Dynamic Cubes adapt automatically as your data evolves to deliver insights at the speed of the business. With full transparency and governance, Finance teams require to empower financial and operational decisions with confidence across the business.
As Finance continues to elevate to the de facto strategic partner across the business, Finance must quickly access and analyze transactional, operational and financial data. The same financial intelligence and governance used for financial reporting is needed, so Finance teams simply can’t do their jobs without the right tools. Even worse, Finance teams must compromise – often relying on IT functions to string together data from various sources and tools. That patchwork of data leads to data latency, replication and lack of data governance. Ultimately, Finance lacks the data and insights needed when they need it, to effectively report on the business – let alone move the business forward.
Dynamic Cubes present data in a unified format, seamlessly merging internal and external data sources into a cohesive analytic model. This unified approach delivers both flexibility and speed to quickly unify granular transactional, operational and financial from trusted sources – but do so with the same financial intelligence and governance CFOs require to effectively guide decision-making and steer business performance.
As someone who has dedicated nearly three decades to this industry, I understand the critical importance of timely and accurate access to trusted data for consolidation, close, financial and operational planning and uninhibited data analysis. Dynamic Cubes represent the culmination of our years of experience, expertise, and innovation—a testament to the transformative power of technology in the hands of finance professionals to deliver insights and actionable intelligence that drives informed decision-making and business performance.
